[/a] her sisters had forced her to wear to get her out of her hoodie for a change "That girl really just needs to embrace how good looking she is" they had said before stuffing Mariko into the car and driving off towards the beach. Although to be honest normally Mariko loved a good beach vacation, she loved sand, loved the smell of the ocean, loved to swim. The problem was that she didn't really like behind here, surrounded by people she knew and shoved into a bathing suit normally she wouldn't wear in a million years. Her sisters just couldn't understand her apprehension but as Mariko drew her knees up to her chest she had to admit that maybe, just maybe they had a good idea. A beach episode wasn't bad every now and again [/ul]

Ice: One of two things to warm my heart. Why did he even agree to come along?
Cryos hated the summer and the heat, but no, everyone just HAD to beg for a vacation. If he had it his way, he'd rather spend his time at a place that was not the beach.
Alas, he was more or less forced into coming along, and so the frosty boy decided to equip himself with blue swimming trunks. On days like these, he wished he was allergic to the sun, so that he had an excuse not to go. Sadly, he wasn't though.
"What have I done to deserve this?", he thought.
As he arrived at the beach however, he first took a look around. So many people. No ideas for a new sculpture. At best a salt shaker because of the ocean's salt content. Suddenly, a familiar figure entered his line of sight. It seemed to be Mariko Nakazawa, the SHSL Film Director.
Although he did wonder what the hell she was doing there, he decided not to approach her. Instead he packed out his blue towel and lied down on it, with his face up.
He knew he was going to hate it here.

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love. It wasn't Root's choice. He kept telling that to himself. He kept saying he was here against his will. Except for the fact he had elected to come. He said he was manipulated. And boy he was. He'd been told to go 'you'll get to see Mariko in a swim suit'. And instantly he'd been sold. However, he was so behind on all of his work. He'd made some very important strides in some of his work, which included a bit of brain work which would prove useful specifically for his sister and maybe even for him. He'd have to show it to the neurobiologist later. Unless they already figured it out then he was completely useless.
No. That was untrue. He'd made a big stride in the Theory of Everything and he was going to go speak to some idiot college students about it in France next week. He wasn't a good speaker though, but when it came to science he could write all day and speak all day about it. Of course, dropping himself down to their level would be the hardest part. They were just Graduate students. He was far beyond all of them, he told himself. And in some ways he was, and he was indeed the best high school scientist out there, and beyond some scientists even with a PhD, but he was still a student and had a lot to learn still. The teachers at the university would probably remind him when he visited.
Anyways, that wasn't the problem at hand. The problem was here he was in a pair of swim shorts, his chest bare and he felt self-conscious. Chest hair was fairly non-existent, and he was incredibly thin. His skin was pale, but that matched his normal complexion seeing as he spent most of his time indoors. He looked around for a moment before grabbing for his lab coat and putting it on to relieve a bit of the self-consciousness. Taking a deep breath he saw the ice sculptor before his eyes rested on the bikini clad green haired girl, Mariko. Root stared for a few moments, his mouth dropping causing him to realize such and he immediately closed his mouth and slowly made his approach through the warm sand.
Warm. No. Hot.
Oh fucking hell. He shouldn't have taken off his shoes, for the instant he stepped out of the shade of the changing area, his feet were on fire. He ran as fast as he could towards the water. Then realized it was water and ran back to the nearest shade. Oh, at least he was closer to Mariko. He took a deep breath in and walked over to Mariko, ignoring the sand, which he was unnaturally sensitive to due to reasons.
"H-Hi. Your… arms look nice."

Water flowed between her fingers, as she sighed, keeping her eyes shaded under a pair of sunglasses.
Airi really did appreciate the simpler things in life at times. She had been laying on an air-filled floating raft for the past twenty minutes or so, only occasionally sipping from her bottle of Coca-Cola. She hummed to herself, as she ran her right hand in the salty water, creating small ripples that would have no effect on the rest of the wide, wide ocean.
Keeping her eyes closed, she grabbed the bottle to take another sip of the sweet soft drink, only to realize that it was finally empty. Opening her eyes for the first time in a while, she sat up, simply giving the pop bottle a disappointed look. Her eyes glanced at the shore, which wasn't too far away. There was even a convenient concession building within walking distance of where she set up her towels and umbrella.
Resting the bottle in it's holder on the raft, she slipped into the water, making sure to grab the raft before paddling to land. Really, it was horrible for the designer. Some little brat splashed water in her face on the way, and there was a point where the water that she floated in got sickeningly warm.
An relieved sigh escaped her lungs as she could finally feel clumpy, wet sand below her feet. Dragging the floater onto land, and back to her spot, she grabbed the bottle and tossed it in the nearest garbage. Glancing back at the beach, Airi spotted... Huh, Cryos Frost ,the Ice Sculptor. Strange coincidence, bumping into a classmate, here of all places. The poor guy looked like he wasn't taking the sun very well. Which seemed natural, considering. Upon buying her second bottle of pop, she made sure to get an ice cold water bottle as well. Not like they costed much, only one hundred and thirty yen.
Returning to the scorching sand, she subtly approached Cryos, kneeling down with the water in her hand.
"Hey there." She had a kind smile on her face, though she nearly prayed she wasn't bothering her peer. Extending her hand, she offered the drink. "On me. You look like. Well, like the beach isn't being as kind to you."

Ice: One of two things to warm my heart. Cryos was muttering curses under his breath and wishing that he would just die right then and there because it was just so hot.
On the other hand, he wasn't alone with that thought. He saw Root, the SHSL Scientist feeling uncomfortable as well. Unlike Cryos however, he approached Mariko. Well, why wouldn't he? Just about the entirety of Hope's Peak knew that those two were a couple, so hiding it wouldn't work.
He then snickered to the thought of Ignia hating the beach as well. He began to daydream when suddenly a girl came over to him and snapped him out of his daze.
Looking at the girl, he recognized her as Airi Mitsukuri, who actually held a bottle of water to him.
Gracefully accepting it, Cryos smiled at her. "Thanks.", he said. "And you got that damn right."
He turned his head to see what else was happening, before he turned back to the Fashion Designer.
"I owe you.", he stated. "When we're back at the school, remind me to give you back your money. You're a lifesaver."
He then sighed.

"Oh, an ice cold gentleman, are we?" Airi gave a sly chuckle, covering her mouth with her hand. Gaining back the tiny shard of composure that she had lost, the girl waved her hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it, Cryos. It only cost, like, a hundred yen. I'm hardly going to lose sleep over it." Though her tone had a tinge of condescension, it seemed unintentional.
Grinning, she took a swig of her Mitsuya Cider, taking a comfortable seat on the sand next to Cryos. "So! What brings you, of all people, to the beach? Doesn't really seem like your scene." Lifting her sunglasses over her forehead, the designer took another sip, thinking to herself. As if she was one to really talk about who should be at the beach. Airi had thought for years that she had no business wearing a two piece swimsuit in public, but her family always said stuff like, 'You're gorgeous.' She didn't easily take their word for it.
Scanning the beach, her eyes fell on.. yet two more Hope's Peak students. She recognized one, Alexander Root, from the student registry, and of course, everyone at least kind of knew the SHSL Film Director. This is beyond coincidence. Of course everyone decided to come today. There was a faint sign of a grimace on her face. Well, almost everyone.
Of course she was the only one to get ditched at this fucking beach. Oh well, they all were kind of busy a lot.
Shaking off her ugly expression, she sat back, watching the awkward scientist try to flirt with Mariko. Though the red head couldn't quite hear him, she had a pretty good idea that whatever compliment he gave her wouldn't smite most girls. Still, those two really worked, from what Airi had heard.
"Heheh.. I have a feeling that he's making a fool out of himself. He looks like a lobster, seriously." The girl held her hand over her stomach, holding back full blown laughter.

Was it really appropriate for her to be here? This spot on the sand was not hers and she didn't ask permission from anyone to be there. But it had to happen. Hope's Peak forced her to go to the beach to keep an eye out for any injuries people may sustain. Mikan was wearing her only bikini that got shrunk in the wash accidentally by the person doing laundry that day, Teruteru Hanamura.
Her medical tent and all the needed medical supplies were laid out on the table waiting for someone to come for an injury. Then she could heal them and she could feel needed. Her patients were usually nice to her when they needed her help. The tent was also big enough for her to be easily spotted and everyone will remember where she was. Parts of her hair were nicely covering a bald spot that was caused by other students wanting to include her into their activities.

[/i] Opening one green green eye at the sound of the voice, Mariko looked up to see the giant Alexander standing over here and for some reason complimenting her arms. Was that a common thing for people to be into, Mariko honestly didn't know, and at his words the briefly held her arms out and studied them, trying tosee what they appeal could be. The were okay arms, she guessed. They did what arms were meant to do and let her hold things. Let her wear her favorite hoodie without looking silly. Arms were cool, she guessed. "Thanks.""I think?" is what she thought, not said. She still wasn't sure the appeal of arms but who was she to judge his fetish? People were in to slightly stranger things. Leaning back on the towel had been sitting on, Mariko glanced over at Root's choice of beachgoing attire. Root wasn't a bad looking guy but the poor boy had the skin complexion of a ghost in a lunar eclipse, and she wouldn't be surprised at all if this was the first time in weeks he had been outside his room. He must really love the ocean to make such a bold sacrifice, she'd have to force him to go swimming with her later. "Nice beachwear there, senpai. Very chic."[/ul]

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love. Root was quite proud of himself. Mariko seemed to appreciate the compliment even if he was cursing himself for how stupid he sounded. Maybe he was wrong when he was repeating it over and over in his head about how stupid he had sounded. Did she like her arms? Maybe girls like getting compliments about their arms. It was possible, but Root wasn't sure. Maybe he would ask Wendy about it later. She was his only real source on what girls liked, and he knew she wasn't the most reliable source. She was… special, his sister was, and he would always take that into account when he sought her advice. Of course, every time he did, she would ask him about when he and Mariko would have babies. And he rather not have to fight off those questions once more.
When she mentioned his beachwear, Root looked down and nearly blushed, looking away for a moment. Chic. That was a compliment, right? It was one of those terms most kids his age used, but he didn't really know what it really meant. He wrote the work in his journals so he could look it up later. Then again, what was the point if he would forget it? Of course, he was good at remembering things like terminology so maybe he wouldn't forget it almost immediately like he usually did when regarding most things, such as his day or other memories, primarily. He forgot events not information… usually.
"Oh, th-thanks." I think. He was looking down at her as she lay on her towel, feeling slightly awkward. "I-I hope you don't mind if I… uh," Root took a seat next to her and smiled, leaning back slightly with a worried looking smile. "I can go somewhere else, but, uh… I don't really… know the others… well." While true, he also didn't give a flying leap about anyone else either. Also, he didn't go to the beach often. He wasn't sure what to do. He'd gone… before he thought he remembered thinking back. He remembered being on the sand and laughing with his mom holding his hand and his dad following behind him holding Wendy. It seemed like a happy memory. But, ugh, water. That was the worst part about the beach. Other than the hot sand beneath him and the probable sun burn he would later experience. That wasn't going to be a happy experience. What did people do at a beach again? Other than just lay out in the hot sun? Play in the dangerous and disease ridden water? Build sandcastles? Apply sunscreen to each other? He wasn't sure. He would learn by watching Mariko and possibly studying the others for a short time. Words: 454 | @next

Ice: One of two things to warm my heart. Cryos just grumbled when Airi asked him what he was doing at the beach.
"You're right.", he stated. "I don't have a single clue on why I'm here. It felt like I was being dragged by some invisible force or something."
He made a mental note to himself that the water bottle was a gift and that he shouldn't worry about it.
Upon the Fashion Designer's comments, he looked over to Root and Mariko.
"You're right again.", he said. "As far as I have heard from other people, as smart as Root is in the sciences, talking to people is really not his specialty. I'll just be here, waiting for trouble to unfold, and for the next bus home or something."
Cryos then took a sip of the water bottle Airi so graciously offered him. "Ahhh..."

With a sigh, Airi let her body lean back far enough so that her elbows were all that really held her up. The sun sure was hot today, essentially turning each square inch of sand covered beach into a frying pan. Cryos sure was lucky that she came along to save the day, wasn't he? As she took a few minutes to rest, the designer continued to people watch. Of course this place was packed today, with muscular guys throwing frisbees, little brats crying over a dropped ice cream cone, and awkward teenagers as far as the horizon. Her eyes widened a bit when she spotted the medical tent. Ah, another Ultimate. She knew about the nurse. Quite a disgusting mess from what she understood.
Without really thinking, Airi reached her hand up to her neck, softly laying a couple fingers on her scar. Ever since she got it, the marking has certainly drawn uncomfortable, and likely involuntary stares from people. She even noticed the ice sculptors eyes get caught on it a couple times. So it was only natural that some pasty skinned dumb whore like that annoying nurse could just take a glance at it, and treat it as if it just happened yesterday. She really, really hoped that wouldn't be the case, but you never knew.
"Well.." She began as she sat up from what was originally a pretty relaxing position. The girl had to wonder how well she was hiding the disgust on her face from spotting Mikan. After a few moments, Airi finally stood up with a stretch, casting a shadow over the pale skinned boy. "Gotta admit, I'm pretty bored now, so maybe I'll go over there and give Root a hand.. Or make it worse for him. Heh, we'll see." Oh, how she truly did have a sadistic side. The girl began to walk across the UV ray wasteland, leaving her little raft with Cryos. As she finally got a bit closer to the couple, Airi flashed a bright grin to Mariko.
"Yo, Nakazawa! Haven't seen you in a while. What's up?"

[/i]Thank you god of interruptions, and the opportunity to not have to have us the reader try and stumble upon small talk and for once that wasn't a penis joke at his expense and the green haired girl looked up at the younger girl and gave a small warm smile at the approaching girl, drawing her knees even closer to her chest if that was even possible as if to fold herself into a perfect ball or a square when in reality she was still trying to cover herself as much as possible because she wasn’t one for bikinis and why was her sister doing this to her, but that was an argument for another time. "Ah, Mitsukuri, good afternoon. It truly has been a while, hasn't it?" Which makes sense, the young fashion designer was only a first year and she a third so it wasn’t like the had classes together or even saw each other on a regular basis, but the younger girl had seemed nice enough though not one Mariko would have taken for a beach goer, what did her big sister have on these kids to get them all to come along for the ride? On second thought, don’t tell her. The thought was kind of scary. [/ul]

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love. Of course someone had to approach them. And things were going so smoothly for the pair. The sun was shining, he was sitting next to a pretty girl, he would probably smile at her, she might smile back.
Okay. That would've been awkward. Thank you stranger for interrupting. Of course, Root hated other people in general, but this seemed like it was a friend of Mariko's, and therefore since the friend wasn't a male, he could be nice to her if he really wanted to… except he was saltier than the sea right now and didn't want to be nice to anyone but Mariko. He'd… He'd try for Mariko's sake.
"Mitsukuri?" Root asked, "I haven't had the… pleasure," he made sure to say that with as much disgust as possible, "Of meeting you before. My name is Alexander Root. Call me Root and nothing else." He didn't offer his hand like many would when they meet another. Instead he looked up at her with a lazy and annoyed look on his face to convey 'please just go away', even though he was happy for her intrusion deep down. It helped with the awkward small talk that would've gone on between the pair which would probably have ended awkwardly and he didn't like feeling awkward, even if he usually did around Mariko. He wanted that awkwardness to go away, but he just didn't know how to not be weird around Mariko. He just wanted her to like him so much it hurt at times, when he thought he was acting dumb or did something Mariko probably wouldn't like or something like that.
"So, uh, how do you two know each other?" That was a good start of a conversation, right? After all, they obviously knew each other from… somewhere, but he didn't remember Mitsukuri at all. Words: 305 | @next
