Sunlight was barely cracking past the horizon when he began wheeling a cart into the art room. Even if it was so early, the painter was a bit surprised by the utter lack of anybody here. Not even an instructor getting ready for the day? Then again, not many people at the school came by this room. It’s just where most pieces were set up to be viewed by all. Of course, these wouldn’t be up for long. Slowly, and meticulously, Naoya took each painting from its protective wrapping and set them all up on stands. One had been commissioned by some rich family, that he really didn’t bother remembering the name of. They were all the same, anyway. It was just a simple, boring portrait of the parents and children. One was ordered by an instructor, picturing a vast, bright galaxy. That one was a bit more work, even kept him up for a night. Naoya just assumed the man wanted something pretty to hang up in his home. Then, finally, the headmaster wanted one done for his office, or something. It just depicted the academy on top of a cliff, in some bright, flora infested valley. The canvas was big, and if this one was going to represent him as an Ultimate, of course he slaved on it for hours on end, without food or sleep. In fact… That one probably almost killed him. Again. He really knew nothing of moderation, but seeing it stood up in this room was satisfying. It was an accomplishment for sure, though… "It’s no painting for her." He muttered to himself. No, it certainly wasn’t. Even after all these years, the boy was still trying to create something that would be fitting for the memory of his dear sister, but every time he sat down and made an attempt at such an important piece, nothing came of it. Well, nothing he could stand, at least. With an exasperated sigh, he turned from his newest paintings and looked around the room. Of course, he wasn’t the only person in the entire school that contributed to this place. There was a sculpture near the middle, seemingly abstract. Staring at the plaque at it’s base, he was surprised to see it was from the Elementary program. "Jataro… Kemuri?" Of course, he didn’t recognize that name. It probably belonged to some kid in the special primary school affiliated with this academy. With a tiny smile, he pocketed his hands. "That kid has potential. I’m sure he’d create great art one day." Continuing past the sculpture, he spotted a vase on a table, beautiful flowers delicately placed in the water. Even he was amazed at how expressive something as simple as ikebana could express so much. Staring at the name written on the table tag, he spoke again. "I should meet this Suzuki. She’d certainly…" His stomach growled. Oh, right… He hadn’t eaten in awhile, had he? The cafeteria supposedly opened early. Like, stupidly early. Looking back at his paintings, he decided it couldn’t hurt to go and grab some noodles, or something of the sort, and swiftly walked out the door. Just five minutes. Oh Naoya. If only you could have known. |
