Nagito smiled a bit brighter at Daniel's recent comment. This whole situation was nothing but despair inducing, but Daniel and Willow and the others were all determined to help Hope blossom once again! Truly they were beacons of real Hope. Here he was mourning the death of his girlfriend...if not for them he would be less then useless, but the thought of seeing them overcome despair....it made him happy.
Nagito wasn't so concerned with religion. It wasn't that he disbelieved or believed in any particular faith, it was simply a matter of interest. Whether a God or Gods watched down on them from above didn't matter so much. What ultimately decided humanities fate was humans, whether divine intervention was a factor or not. His faith was Hope, his temple was Hope's Peak Academy, his gods the precious symbols of Hope, the Ultimates. They would decide everything in the end.
Still, Nagito was sure that Chiaki would find the afterlife she truly longed for in the end.
What worried him however was the statement of one Paris Eins. Hope's Peak should burn? That wouldn't do at all. Something like that wouldn't honor her memory. It would be a sacrilege, a violation of a holy place.
Nagito had to respond to everyone. After all a servant of Hope was obligated to respond to his masters.
"I would like to thank you all for your kind words to Nanami-san. This has been an overwhelming incident in my mind. I still don't quite know how to process it. The precious girl that I gave my love to is dead. The Ultimate Gamer is dead. The Hope of millions and myself personally has been struck down by a despicable act of violence. A situation utterly full of Despair." Nagito said, looking at the floor and shaking his head sadly, several tears falling down his face.
After a few moments of Nagito looking at his shoes while tears slowly fell down his face and he seemed to have trouble even breathing, his face lifted up. The Ultimate lucky student for once had a bit of color in his face, red around the cheeks. Tears were still pouring but his face was contorted into a strange looking grin.
"But you all care about her just as I do! You see this Despair and view it only as a roadblock on the highway to a bright future! I admire you all so much for that. You will find the terrible criminal who performed this heinous deed! Nanami-san's spirit will be looking over us and smiling warmly. In the end we shall live lives in tribute to her, moving forward and enjoying ourselves because she's not able to. We can never for a second give up Hope. Because that would be a disservice to her memory." Nagito said, practically ranting at this point.
"We can't hate Hope's Peak Academy. Perhaps it's administration did something wrong, but if you disagree with it's methods then you are all free to struggle against them. Graduate and become staff, helping to influence policy. Become a trustee of the board. Start a new school dedicated to Hope. Find those responsible for the cover up and bring them to justice if you must. But never try and tear down the symbol of Hope to the world. That would also be a disgrace to Chiaki and the good memories we made with friends here." Nagito continued. He hoped some of that made sense to anyone other then him.
"But...I am sure you don't want to listen to self righteous speeches from trash like me. Anyone of you would have made a better partner for Chiaki then myself. Even now I can't see why she would choose me. I wouldn't interfere normally, seeing as I will only prove myself a burden in the end. Still...since it is for Chiaki's sake I cannot stay away. I will be the partner of whoever decides they can lug around trash like me." Nagito said.
However as of now he had his eye on Chihiro and Hoshi. Both friends to Chiaki. Hoshi and Willow were probably the brightest hopes for catching Chiaki's killer, and Willow was already taken. Chihiro was a kind person who was also quite intelligent. His eyes were still glittering with tears but his face had adopted his usual smile. Fate owed him big. Bad luck like Chiaki dying deserved a huge pay off. Whatever it was wouldn't be worth her life. But it could be the foundation for an even better Hope. One that could reach into the future and help millions of people all around the world.
That would be a fitting tribute for Chiaki at least.
