The remaining two players laid down their cards in the epic finale and the blonde haired girl carefully looked them over before pushing forward one card. "I choose this one. Romeiyo and Joo-liet."
"...Darn." The boy's face remained unchanged as he let out his nonchalant curse.
"I still don't know why my name was on that card," A girl with short black hair shakes her head, collecting the cards.
"I wonder if my name is on any of those cards..." The boy says, seemingly deep in thought.
The three people sat around in silence while the black-haired girl played with an object in her hands, "I still don't quite understand this 'phone' thing..."
"You call people and they talk to you from faraway," The boy explains, as he had for the fourth time that evening. "Just don't call the one that says home or it'll send you to my parents."
Then without a word, he left the room, leaving the two girls alone, but only for a couple minutes. The boy came back, holding a cat in his arms, stroking it softly.
"Ahhh!" The blonde haired girl squealed in delight as she saw the kitty. "It's so cute! Can I hug it? Please!?"
"Go ahead," The boy hands the cat to the girl and then leaves the room again. When he comes back, he's got another animal. More orange in color and with a leg bent at an awkward angle, "Tomoe, this fox needs help."
Immediately, the black haired girl perks up, "Fox? No... No! It doesn't deserve to live. Kill it. Now."
However, the boy gave the fox to the blonde, Tomoe, without any indication that she had heard the other girl's pleas.
"Please just get rid of it!" The black haired girl shook her head.
"Why?" The boy looked at the girl, his gaze as dull as always, "It hasn't done anything to you."
"N-no. K-Kill it! I-I-" The black haired girl draws a wakizashi blade from her hip, and in defense, the boy steps in between her and Tomoe.
"It's done nothing to you." The boy repeated, not moving an inch.
"I-I-I wont let that h-h-happen ag-again!" The black haired girl begins to sweat and shake, her arm wavering in the air. "Kuno, if you don't move from that spot, I'll have no hesitation in c-cutting you down as well."
"I'm almost done!" Tomoe announces from behind the boy.
"N-n-no. I-I-I can't- I-I won't" Seemingly unable to form complete sentences, the girl's intense red eyes go wide, she let's out an almost bestial scream, drops the sword and starts grappling the boy in an effort to move him from his spot.
As calm as ever, the boy raises his voice, "Bodyguards! I need help!" and as those words pierce the air, security starts pouring in, restraining the kicking and punching girl.
"N-No!! It can't b-b-be th-this w-w-way! It c-can't-" Her eyes roll back in her head and she collapses in the arms of one of the staff members.
"Take her to the nurses office right away," The boy commands, "Oh and take her sharp wakiwhatever thingy."
He tosses the white blade at the guards who catch it with ease and they carry the unconscious girl out, still sweating and muttering things such as "Fox... I'm sorry... Never again..."
A few minutes passed in silence before a buzz and a ringing noise comes from Tomoe. She pulls out her phone and answers it, "Hello? This is totally a doctor speaking!"
"S-Sunada?" Came the voice of the girl from earlier.
"No, no! It's Tomoe!" Tomoe interjects, "Wait, Tomoe is Sunada... So... Yes!"
"I... I deeply apologize. That earlier reaction was... uncalled for."
"It's okay!" Tomoe responded, oblivious to who was on the other side of the phone call.
Then, in a completely different line of thought, the caller kept talking, ""I-Is this even working? Nurse? How can I hear her if she's in a completely different room?"
"Guard? Send this to the nurse's office and give it to Mei Meiyo." The boy says holding up a package of what appeared to be gummies. "Here, Tomoe."
"Thank you Kitty-Katsu!" Tomoe nods.
"Oh, u-uh, Sunada? Is Kuno still..."
"Huh? Oh!" Tomoe turns to the boy, "Katsu? Is Kuno still here?"
"Yes. That's me." The boy, Katsu, replies.
"Oh... Yeah, he's here." Tomoe nods vigorously, as if the person on the receiving end, Mei, could see it.
"K-Kuno?"
"Katchan! It's for you!!" Tomoe smiles widely, handing the phone to Katsu.
"Huh?" Katsu takes the phone, "H-Hello?"
"Kuno, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to... threaten you," Mei's voice is sullen.
"Huh? Y-Y-You d-d-d-did?" Katsu voice was shaking considerably.
"I'm sorry..."
"D-d-don't w-w-worry about it." Katsu blinks a couple of times, trying to steady his stuttering.
"Kuno. I-I'm sure you realize by now, but... I don't like foxes." Mei reveals, talking slowly and steadily.
"Wh-Why n-n-n-n-not?" Katsu asks.
"That's something I'd rather not discuss."
"I-I-I s-s-s-s-see. D-d-d--don't worry I'll t-t-take care of it." Katsu turns to the fox, before taking a pair of cat ears and placing it on its head. He then takes a photo and hits 'send', "Does th-this work?"
Mei gasps a bit, "Th-the fox! Wh-wh-why is it here!?"
"Oh, I thought I dressed it up well enough. Just hit the trash can button in the lower right corner. I'll try to fix it better." Katsu says, a bit of pride running through him as he doesn't stutter once. He removes the cat ears and adds dog ears. Tomoe runs over and places a santa hat on it as well. Then he places the camera on timer and takes a photo with him, the fox, and Tomoe, "H-How's this?"
Mei sighs heavily, "It's still a f-f-f-fox... But I guess, if I pretend really hard that i-it's not, it's not t-t-too bad."
"Good."
Mei Meiyo stood in the courtyard. She was waiting for the others to arrive, namely Tomoe and Katsu. The wanted to keep exposing Mei to the fox and slowly ease her fears which Mei didn't know if she was too comfortable with. Foxes and her didn't mix which, to an onlooker, might seem odd. After all, Japanese culture revers foxes as signs of good luck. Especially when they have nine tails. The Super High School Level Kenjutsu Master pulled out a small device and hit a couple of buttons. When the contact list popped up, she immediately started scanning it for 'Sunada' or 'Kuno'. However, before both those names came another that caught her eye, 'Cruz'. On instinct, she hit the 'Send' button and listened to the beeps.
"I'm sorry, Joo-Eun Cruz is currently not available. Please record a message after you hear the 'beep'." Beep!
"O-Oh! Uhh, hey... Joo, if you get this... You mind heading over to the, um, fancy plant place? Sunada and Kuno will be here and, uhh, there will be a f-f-f-f-f- never mind. Just come over?" She hit another button and the message sent. She hoped that Joo-Eun would get her message and come, but who knew. What Joo-Eun did varied and her interest in certain things varied just as much. For all Mei knew, the Super High School Level Poet could be in the middle of writing and she just interrupted her.
With little left to do, Mei pulled out her dictionary and began searching for the word that described the place she was in. It didn't take long as the word was under 'C'.
"Courtyard, noun. An unroofed area that is completely or mostly enclosed by the walls of a large building."
"Huh. A courtyard. Go figure."
"...Darn." The boy's face remained unchanged as he let out his nonchalant curse.
