Something was going on with the school, she knew. She knew something was going on, but really, she hadn't been paying attention for a while. She had been preoccupied something that was probably far more important than whatever happened. What was this very important matter? W-Well, if you're sure you can handle the truth it was that Lance was a jerk-face who liked to spam hax until her cute little elephant Pokemon fainted along with the rest of her team causing a very important grinding session to take place. She was grinding like Miley Cyrus in a crowd, meaning a lot just so she could teach this little jerk a lesson. Who exactly did this man think he was dealing with here?
The hooded figure perched herself upon the rooftop, the sun setting in the distance, the cool air blowing by gently. Furrowing her brow and biting her lower lip in concentration, she jammed the buttons on her gaming system. Her hood fit tightly around her head, blocking out all outside interference and elements that would disrupt her concentration as her recently evolved Donphan destroyed that Graveler with Earthquake for what seemed like the hundredth time that afternoon, sending that poor pokemon back to the Pokémon Graveyard, or wherever they went when they fainted. They didn't die technically, so it wasn't like she was killing the cute Pokémon.
As the blue experience bar slowly started to fill up bit by bit, Chiaki Nanami sighed, taking ever a brief pause to squint skyward at the orange sky as the sun began to set and the ultimate gamer shook her head to herself.
“Dragons are so cheap.”
Needless to say she was still a little bit bitter about that jerk Lance destroying her party and causing her to lose some of her money. Then, she quickly looked back down at her screen as the screech of yet another Golbat sounded and the rapid tapping of the buttons on her system began to sound, sending another cute little monster into combat, in the hopes of beating that loser of a gym leader in the near future.

[googlefont="Rancho"] Everyone wants a magical solution for their problem, yet everyone refuses to believe in magic. "Ugh, how disappointing..."
The Ultimate Shopkeeper sighed as another day in her store went by. She figured that the Ultimate Gamer girl, Chiaki would've come by now and pick up one or more of the newest games Kaneko got into her store by now. Then she remembered that the girl was dead.
Kaneko herself wasn't too close to Chiaki as a person, but the Gamer was one of her favorite customers. She went in, asked Kaneko if she had this or that new game, or batteries for her handheld, she paid the money and then left without much smalltalk.
She closed the door to her shop, and walked to the school, as there were things in her dorm room Kaneko still needed to pick up.
When she arrived at the school, she looked at the sky. It wasn't often that the Shopkeeper thought that the sky looked beautiful.
She figured she still had some time before her dear Daniel came back from... whatever it was he was doing, and decided to go to the rooftop to more or less stare at the horizon.
A little while after she arrived, she could've sworn she heard the phrase 'Dragons are cheap.' right now. Instinctively, she answered. "No, they're not. Everything has a weakness. A sword to the throat or the underside of the belly, perhaps? If you can hurt it, you can kill it."
Kaneko turned her head towards the source of the voice, when she saw a hooded figure. Hey, didn't the Ultimate Gamer commit suicide from the roof of the school? That hood looked way too familiar.

"No, they're not. Everything has a weakness. A sword to the throat or the underside of the belly, perhaps? If you can hurt it, you can kill it."
Killing? Well that was certainly uncalled for, she thought. Sure, somethings weren’t as pretty as others or maybe some people would consider them useless but it was just plain rude to just kill them. Or so Chiaki thought anyway but hey she was the girl who was grinding up a Livdisc because she didn't have anything else that could learn an ice attack to take down any more mean dragons. And let her just be the first one to say, Luvdisc was kind of a chore to keep alive. One really had to wonder what Nintendo was thinking when they made something so cute and so fragile.
"Hey, killing is wrong...or at least, I think it is. Everything has the right to live as calmly and peacefully as possible." Chiaki grimaced as once again a Machoke slapped her fish down to red status. She should have brought more hyper potions but now she was too far away from the entrance to stock up. What to do, what to do.
“Killin, how unchill. Live and let live makes the world go round, brah.”
Oh hey, another new friend. Now, what was his name again? As the gamer girl looked up once again at the sound of a new voice, Chiaki noticed that this one was...oddly familiar. She did seem to recall that this boy was in the same year as her, but besides his odd speech pattern and the almost skunky smell that followed him around for some reason, she didn't know much about the blonde boy. Still, he seemed friendly enough and she smiled at his words, bobbing her head up and down in agreement as if she fully understood.
"I agree. Most...unchill." Chiaki fought off a yawn, blinked kind of sleepily and then looked right back down at her screen as yet another graveler appeared. How tiresome.

Her pattering footsteps were the first thing one could hear, but they were light, almost undetectable. Mei Meiyo reached the top of the stairs to the roof and the first thing she noticed was the other people. She didn't expect anyone else to be up here when those younger students dared her to come up, but she supposed that would make the whole thing a lot more bearable.
They told her how a ghost roamed the rooftops and when Mei expressed her lack of knowledge about what a 'ghost' was, they told her to go up and see for herself, the only hint being 'They're incredibly spooky.' They also told her that only a coward wouldn't go up to see the ghost, but that wasn't why she had decided to come. Deep inside, she just really wanted to know what a 'ghost' was.
On the rooftop, the girl with the sword strapped to her back and at her hip looked like something out of a comic book or a television show, with the soft breeze blowing her short, uneven black hair and she stepped forward, ready to see this 'ghost' for herself.

[googlefont="Rancho"] Everyone wants a magical solution for their problem, yet everyone refuses to believe in magic. Kaneko brushed some hair aside. "Did you not just say that 'dragons were cheap'?", she asked the hooded figure.
"If so, then it is possible for you to engage them in combat and defeat them, retreat to prepare or to avoid them in their entirety."
She walked around to see that the somewhat translucent girl was holding something that appeared to be a Gameboy Advance. She did not see what game the person was playing, and to be honest, the Shopkeeper didn't really care.
The blonde girl simply let out a 'Hm.' when it was said that murder was wrong. "You're both correct about that, but murder is a part of life, too."
When she turned around, she saw a black-haired girl standing on the rooftop as well.
"Are you here because of the ghost rumors?", Kaneko asked. "I am just here because of the sunset."

Oh hey, someone else came on to the roof, but kenji didn't take any notice of the sound of the door opening or closing, nor did he take notice of the older girl state that death was another part of life. Of course he knew that was true but dude that was a depressing view of life to take, you know? It was a lot more cheery to just kind of relax, take a few things easy and let things happen as they may.
was that lazy? Maybe some would see it that way but Kenji simply saw it as the path of no resistance. Putting up a lot of resistance when there's really no point wasn't really chill, you know? At the word sunset however the skaterboarder craned his neck up to look at the sky as if he was just noticing it for the first time and had never seen a night sky before, finally nodding his head slowly as if to confirm the words of the other girl.
It was a pretty chill sunset

"Did you not just say that 'dragons were cheap'?"
This girl was strange. Not only did she appear fascinated with the idea of killing things and that was usually bad. If she remembered right that was one of the first warning signs of a sociopath. What a scary woman. Chiaki may have corrected her on the fact that there was a big leap from “this Pokémon type is cheap” to “hold it down and slit it from sternum to crotch” but it was at that exact moment that the door to the roof once again opened and a newcomer joined them on the root, and Chiaki gave an absentminded wave as her eyes stayed glued onto her Nintendo DS, frowning in concentration as she tried to beat an annoyingly durable medicham.
"You're both correct about that, but murder is a part of life, too."
“Says who?” That just seemed wrong to her, truth be told. She knew that people did commit murders and that this was a horrific part of their society, but murder wasn’t something one should be so glib about. Killing was wrong, and it was wrong to just shrug your shoulders and say ah well, this is how people are. At least, that’s what she thought, a thought she made sure not to say out loud because there was a thought this girl might snap if she told her how she really felt. Instead the gamer narrowed her eyes and puffed out her cheeks a bit like she was debating what to say before settling for “Murder is wrong.”
And that was that. Chiaki turned her attention to the screen and the older girl turned to address someone else because there was no point in carrying on this conversation. She was wrong, that was all there was too it. Murder shouldn’t be justified just because it happened, people should strive to be better so one day there wouldn’t be any murders. That didn’t sound like a horrible thing to wish for, did it? For things to be nice and peaceful and maybe everyone could get together and play Mario party or something and everything would be nice and calm and friendly. Yes, she’d like a world like that very much.
"Are you here because of the ghost rumors?”
“Ghost? Who’s a g-“ Chiaki’s voice caught in her throat as yet again for the eighth hundred time the cry of a Golbat echoed from her screen. This time was different however, this time the bat had a greenish hue to it and the wings that were normally a purple color were now a salmon pink. A shiny golbat, what are the odds?
“’oly shi-“ She caught herself just in the nick of time, quickly flicking her eyes to the three other students that were there and scrambled to cover up the curse she had almost uttered. “oot.”

"The ghost rumors?" Mei was quiet for a bit, "You could say that it was a dare..." Her voice trailed off as she noticed the girl holding a strange blocky object. She looked vaguely familiar. As Mei recalled, she was a student in the second year. The girl had started talking to them, but her sentence was interrupted by a small screech. "Is she okay?"
Mei approached the girl and peered over her shoulder. What she saw impressed her greatly. Light and colors shown on the surface of the blocky object, creating a picture that moved. She knew what a TV was, but she had never seen one, so this downscaled version was completely new to her. What was on that object was what set her off though. It was... a bat. A pink bat. On instinct, she drew her wakizashi from her side and pointed it at the girl. Her social awkwardness faded as fear, panic, and the adrenaline of holding her sword overtook her mind, "What is that!? Why is there that... that thing on your block!?"

[googlefont="Rancho"] Everyone wants a magical solution for their problem, yet everyone refuses to believe in magic. "I sense it.", Kaneko said coldly. "You're thinking I am a sociopath, isn't that right? Even so, I'm not angry. I feel it's hard to make me angry, something I must have inherited from my mother."
When the black-haired girl suddenly pulled out her sword and pointed it at Chiaki, she had to take a look at what happened. She took a few steps forward and saw a shiny Golbat.
Kaneko began to smile. "Lucky! You have a 1/8192 chance to find a shiny Pokémon! Did you bring enough Ultra and Great Balls? Maybe a few Dark Balls as well?"
She then sort of shrugged. "Or enough Poké Balls as well, but catching a stronger Pokémon with them is difficult..."
Why yes, after Daniel became Kaneko's boyfriend, he did show her what fun the Pokémon games can be. She doesn't play a lot, but when she does, it eases her mind off of other things, like difficult schoolwork or the works.

Chiaki Nanami. Just another death that Hoshi would have to will himself to get over... or was it?
There were rumors that the pink-haired gamer could be seen up on the roof where she was murdered, hearsay that just couldn't help but snake its way towards the hooded boy's ears.
Not that many rumors could escape from him to begin with, because after all, what's a conman to do if he doesn't keep himself up to date with gossip that goes round?
This one though, this one hurt to hear. Chiaki Nanami was dead. He saw her body himself. Felt her cold skin. And now she's supposed to be back? What kind of bullshit is that? Hell, this story was probably just some stupid kid's idea, and God help the guy when Hoshi finds out who did it.
But if that were the case, why couldn't he help himself from walking up the staircase to the roof? Why didn't he turn around at the door to the roof - why let himself be deluded into believing this?
Because of desperation, he ganders. A desire for her to still be here. And would you look at that - opening the door, the sight that greeted him was Chiaki Nanami herself! Her, a few other students, as well as one that... seemed to be drawing a sword on her.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Hoshi yelled, rushing past Kaneko and Kenji to stand between Chiaki and the wielder of the sword. "Step back," he spat out through gritted teeth, his hands clenched into fists and his eyes furious and determined. "Put the sword away. Now."

MEI MEIYO -KENJUTSU MASTER- "No," Mei turned to the newcomer, a hostile look in her eyes. "Not until she tells me why that... that thing is on her block." The picture on the block was all too similar to a bat to not be. Even if it was pink, it was still a bat and Mei didn't like bats. Whereas she had other fears that had their origins in trauma, Mei's fear of bats came from irrationality. It was like a fear of spiders or a fear of heights. She had looked it up once. Apparently, it was called 'chiroptophobia' and usually, Mei didn't have to worry. One swing from her sword and the bats lay on the ground unmoving. This time was different, though. The bat was on a block. It was a picture and it only frightened her more because she couldn't kill it.
Couldn't... kill it? Maybe... Maybe she still could. If she destroyed the block, the picture would go away, right? Mei turned from Hoshi back to Chiaki, "Give me the block so that I can destroy the bat." Despite how inside she felt a fear that made her want to curl up with her swords cradled in her arms, on the outside, she showed no signs of terror. No signs that she was afraid anymore. "If you fail to comply... I'll be forced to take other actions."

[googlefont="Rancho"] Everyone wants a magical solution for their problem, yet everyone refuses to believe in magic. "Do excuse me.", Kaneko said to Mei after the latter threatened Chiaki's device with her sword.
"Please, calm down first." Although the Shopkeeper thought of herself as a smart young woman, she still knew she had to tread carefully now.
Slowly, she approached Chiaki and the game she was playing as well.
"Although there is a bat on the screen, it is nothing to worry about. It is not a real bat."
She turned to Chiaki.
"Chiaki, my dear, would you be so kind as to... how did Daniel put it again? 'Close the lid' on the device to put it into 'Sleep mode'? That should be proof enough that the bat is harmless."
When she turned to Hoshi, she gave him a warm smile.
"It is good to see you again, Hoshi. Although the circumstances right now are less than stellar, I hope your day was fine?"
Kaneko sort of hoped that she didn't have to use her Death Stare, even if it was effective generally.

Well, we just went from zero to a hundred in about two seconds. While Chiaki had simply been playing some pokemon on her DS and suddenly there was a sword pointed at her because weirdo mcshutin over here seemingly has never seen a video game before. It took a moment for things to officially sink in and before she notices what she’s doing she’s backpedaling away from the sword and the person holding it as fast as her legs would allow her to travel on such a growingly cramped roof, very nearly knocking the stoner boy over as she backpedaled and he stared at the sky.
“Ey now, don’t be pointin’ dat ting at me!”
Who oversaw admissions here anyway? They really had to review their acceptance policy. Luckily for her right then the roof door opened once again and somebody else appeared on the roof. Oh God, what was his name. She should know this; he was in her year after all. Kitago? Kisa? Kittygiri? What on earth was it? Luckily she got a little bit of a prompt from the two students who weren’t sword wielding weirdos as apparently, his name was Hoshi. She still had to wrack her brain for a moment to put the names to the face but when she did she felt like slapping herself in the face for how dumb she had been. Like she had finally been able to solve a puzzle with clues that had been in front of them all along right under her nose.
“Ah, Kisuragi-kun, how are you?” With the threat seemingly dealt with, Chiaki turned her gaze back down to the screen she had so rudely been interrupted from and focused on the problem at hand. Namely how to capture this stupid golbat. She was highly over leveled so almost any attack was almost 100% sure to kill it and she only had a limited access of pokeballs to chuck at it and hope it would stay in there. If only Komaeda was around, his luck would have rubbed off on her for sure when he was most needed. Eyes glued to her screen, Chiaki couldn’t help but feel there was something she was supposed to say to the new arrival, she wouldn’t want to be seen as a rude host or anything and apparently, the roof was quite the hot spot for student activity up here. If she had known she would have brought snacks to share.
“Nice evening isn’t it, Kisuragi-kun? The perfect night for a nice grinding montage.”
