I Thought You Loved Me... "Such a gross, disgusting girl. Worse than roadkill. I let you drool over me for three years, and you can't die like I asked. I would have let you end your pathetic life if I knew you'd be this worthless... Like, you know the only reason I kept you around was to use you, right? I thought you could bring Despair on them. You can't even do that. Even the stinky one is above you. She had the brains to actually try and kill you before you disappointed me like this. We're done. Stay away from me."
Airi Mitsukuri. She had a dream, once. Her heroes and ideals were always so.. beautiful. All she wanted in the world, growing up, was to match their beauty and grace. Maybe it was a typical dream for a little girl, but she held onto it like her life depended on it. And as a day came around where she'd have the opportunity to accomplish that dream, someone else stole it from her. During a fashion competition, she was beat out by the woman who'd become the Ultimate Fashionista of Hope's Peak Academy one day. Just as Airi felt her world crumble, seeing her dream so far out of reach, that same girl came to her with a new purpose. Despair. She didn't understand it, but that's what Junko Enoshima craved. So, Airi would do her best to provide it. Of course she would. After all, there was true love between them that only the most lonely people could concoct in their minds. Like destiny brought them together for this purpose. Becoming Junko's lead outfit designer, it seemed they spent every waking moment together, building this new dream. And then, one day, the world stopped turning. They stood on the roof. In the designers hand was a knife, given to her by the Ultimate Soldier. That's when.. Junko Enoshima asked her to stab herself in the stomach, and fall off the roof for the entire school to see. It was meant to look like a murder. To be a prologue to an endless story of Despair that would envelop the world itself. At that moment, she failed her love. She couldn't go through with it. Airi wanted to be there, to see the Despair rise with her love. To see how happy the despair would make her love. This wish, this desire, this dream was a failure in Junko's eyes. And just at that moment, the Fashion Designer was rejected. Left on the roof, with just a knife. Days went by as her thoughts tangled in a not. She was worthless, pathetic. She didn't deserve Junko's love, but it was all she lived for. She went back and forth on the roof idea until.. An idea presented itself to her. That she wasn't the one that had to die for this. Someone else was far more worthy. She wrote a letter, to be sent to Junko. And then, preparation began. She stalked the girl as she made went around, playing games and making friends. All those connections she made. The con artist, the girl who worked with Matsuda, the demented boy that she loved. Soon, it became very clear what she had to do. Dawning a bright yellow rain coat, she arrived on the roof, catching the girl, Chiaki Nanami, off guard. Starting with a smack, then a throttle, she assaulted the gamer with little mercy. Until, finally, she took the knife, and plunged it into the girl, blood beginning to splatter the coat. Then again. And again. Pushing the knife in to the hilt, she grabbed Chiaki's pained face, and smiled as she looked over the school, shadowed in darkness. And.. She laughed. "You know.. I was supposed to be the one bleeding here. But considering how many friends you made, how many people love you after you came out of your shell.. You're better suited to this, don't you think?" Accompanying that sick, twisted smile, were tears starting to well on a pale expression. She was.. killing someone. This girl was bleeding out right in front of her. Part of her was sickened by it.. Another just couldn't wait for what Junko would say. "Th-This.. This school will be shrouded in Despair.. And you're the one that's gonna cause it. You and me. Angels opening the gates of hell together."
With that final word, she ripped the knife out, dropping it to the floor. Then.. Airi hugged the girl to her.. Tightly. She could hear, next to her, the Gamer gasping for air. Blood squelched on the large coat, and after a minute.. Chiaki stopped breathing. Airi let go, letting the lifeless corpse drop into the puddle of blood that had formed on the ground. She resisted the urge to throw up, before grabbing Chiaki's hand and dabbing a finger into the open wound. Then, letting the hand fall at the girl's side, Airi dabbed her own finger in the blood, before writing the name "Nagito" on the ground. A girl, murdered by her lover. How despair inducing. From there, the plan was simple. She would pack the raincoat and knife in a box, and when everyone had seen the body, she would dumb the evidence into Nagito's room, and act as if she knew nothing. But.. It was quickly apparent what was happening. The academy tried to clean the blood on the roof, and even forged a suicide note. They didn't care about the truth, they just wanted to cover their own asses. So Airi's job wasn't done. She went investigating, hoping to expose the academy cover up. In a way, that may provide better results then her original plan. But even that fell apart.. When the blue haired teacher, Kyo Tsukino, came to her door, and asked her to come with him. They found her... They knew.. She killed Chiaki. And the nail in the coffin for her.. was the letter she wrote to Junko Enoshima. That shouldn't have been in her room, she had slipped it under the Fashionista's door the night before Chiaki's death. There was only one way it could have been in her room.. No.. Nonononono. She wouldn't. She was just mad. Junko loves her. She would never let Airi take the fall for this. She would save her. Save her. Save her. Please don't leave her. Don't let them take her. Even though she tried to be brave, play the mastermind, inside she was breaking apart. As Kyo dragged her off to the Future Foundation Headquarters, and locked her away, she just kept telling herself. "Junko will save me. This is just temporary. Junko loves me, and would never leave me like this.."
Airi jolted awake. It had all played back to her again in her dreams. Killing Chiaki, being caught, Junko and Mukuro killing her captors and saving her. The three of them, causing despair across the world.. Except, that didn't happen yet. She was stuck in the middle of her story, locked away. They told her she would never see daylight again. Already, she started to crave any light. Sliding off the uncomfortable bed, she looked around the room, though there wasn't much to see. It was just stone, enveloped in darkness. Hardly a luxury prison. At this point, she was waiting. Either for Junko to save her, or these people to execute her. Though she couldn't hear much, she heard from one of the guards that a man named "Munakata" advocating that she should die. He said it, like he wanted it. Of course he did. She sort of did too. If she couldn't be there with Junko, then what purpose did she have? Her life.. was meaningless. Junko, and her despair, were the closest thing to a reason to live that Airi had. Without that, she should die. She couldn't though, there was no was this room would allow her. She tried to bash her head on a wall a few days ago, but a guard quickly stopped her. Why he stopped her, when everyone in this building probably wanted her dead.. She didn't know. Maybe they would torture her, get her to give them answers about Junko. That man, Juzo, he already beat her a little, trying to get answers, but that old man stopped him before he did any real damage. Why. Whywhywhywhy. Why couldn't they just finally kill her. Why was Junko taking so long. She wanted one or the other. Why was she stuck in this limbo. Pacing around the room, she resisted the urge to scream. The darkness of the cell, it drove her mad. She wanted to be anywhere but here. She wanted anything but this. Be with anyone else. Junko, Mariko, Matsuda.. Even Chiaki. She'd so prefer to be forever stuck in the moment of that girls death, than in this cell between hell and earth. Or maybe.. she wanted something else from the Gamer.. Quickly walking up to a stone wall, she slammed her forehead against it, feeling her head go fuzzy for a moment before returning to normal. She fell to her knees, her head still against the wall. She wanted out. Out. Out. Release her from this damnation. Tears began to well up in her eyes. | Kyo had been a long standing member in the secret society that was the Future Foundation. He had been there for years and years, ever since he graduated, but only until recently had things been changing. Ever since that guy, Munakata, had come in and taken control. The only thing that still stood in the institution he truly had grown to love and believe in was their true leader, Kazuo Tengan. He was a pillar keeping the young man at bay, not budging to allow the complete take over by the former Student Class President. In fact, Tengan was Kyo's hero. He was the one who recruited him in the first place. Tengan was his mentor, and a man who Kyo respected and even thought of like a father. In fact, Tengan was the only reason Kyo was still alive.
With the death of Chiaki Nanami, Kyo felt that it was his job to find the culprit and defeat them. It wasn't just about him, or avenging the young girl's death. It was also about inspiring others to not go down the same path as Airi. He had to give them hope, for hope was the only reason he pushed on. After his training in the government, being ripped from his family from a young age and taught to be a ruthless killer. A young boy was invisible, completely harmless to everyone… or so everyone thought. He first killed a man when he was ten years old, right in front of his family. Even after nearly two decades, it haunted him. He infiltrated terror cells and gave information to people, undercover pretending to be friends with those people, and then leading them like cows to slaughter. Kyo was never cut out for that work, but they beat it into him. He let the emotions be hidden deep inside him, even while eating him up.
Finally, one day, Kyo ran away from the government that had trained him. If word got out they were using a kid for these operations, there would be a revolt. Kyo was too afraid to tell anyone. Until an older man found him crying. They sat there, Kyo a young boy crying in front of some complete stranger, until the man spoke. 'It's good to let it all out every once in a while, otherwise we despair. The emotions eat you alive, rot you from the inside out. Only in the deepest dark can the light shine the brightest. Keep your head held high, and never give up. Don't let despair win. Crying is not weakness, it is a strength that few know. It is what keeps us going. Everyone is human. Everyone despairs. But only the strong see the light and let it burst forth and bring hope to the world.' Kyo didn't respond but the older man stood up and gave him a look. 'I'll see you again in two years.'
Kyo didn't understand it at that time, but that man was the principal at a prestigious school. The man didn't know who he was, what he was, but he could see Kyo's potential. He just knew he was an ultimate. And that's why he knew he would see Kyo again in two years. That's what Tengan had told him in his first year. He knew just by looking at him he was talented. The government wished for Kyo to get specialized training at Hope's Peak and when the letter came, after he was scouted by the school, his handlers allowed him to claim the title of SHSL Secret Agent.
He still remembered begging Tengan to help him escape from those who took him as a kid. Those who forced him to kill and abused him to get him to cooperate. At first the man rejected him, saying he had to carve his own path, defeat his past on his own, and then he could help him. The next day three high ranking officials were found dead in their homes. No suspects. No idea who could've done it. Tengan approached Kyo, knowing exactly what had happened. Kyo asked for the help again. 'You have not won. You are still imprisoned. When I told you to free yourself, I did not mean by killing. I meant mentally. Emotionally. Killing those men prove exactly my point.'
Rejected. Rejected by the man he thought was his friend, his mentor, a father figure. Kyo stormed off. He never officially graduated, but Tengan sealed the record of the circumstances regarding everything in that last month of schooling. Kyo disappeared from the face of the Earth to search, to find answers as a nineteen-year-old boy.
Three years later, Tengan found him near the same place the two had originally met. 'I know what you were trying to teach me,' Kyo had said. He believed he had found the answer. He had to accept himself for the person he was, he had to stand up against those he cared about. He had to be his own person and not let anyone control him. If Tengan had taken him in, he'd only slip into the same subservient mindset. And that was exactly what Tengan did not want for him. He would be a tool, but he would not be a person. He had to find his humanity. In those three years, that was what he believed. He was officially inducted into the Future Foundation after that. Tengan sent him on his first mission, which Tengan joined in on himself, which was to located a person. It turned out that person was a little girl, and soon Tengan ordered Kyo to kill the little girl and handed him a gun to do it with. Kyo hesitated and asked why. Tengan explained she was a demented little girl who had killed many people. Kyo refused. Tengan took Kyo's gun and fired, revealing that it was a gun loaded only with a blank. They took the girl in and locked her up.
Tengan told him it was a test, and he passed it. He was no longer the mindless drone he once had been. If he failed, his memory would have been erased and he would have been sent back into the world to never be welcomed by Tengan and his foundation ever again. Kyo was attached to Tengan. Even after his initial rejection, Kyo fought so hard with himself to win the man's approval and finally he did. The light of hope had burst forth from his despair, not because Tengan had accepted him, but because he had become a fully realized person. He had goals of his own, morals he had from before he was taken by the government.
During those three years he explored the only time he knew he had individuality. Before he was taken by the government and trained. There he watched his family from the shadows, as his younger brother grew and learned and lived a life he should've gotten. But he didn't feel anger towards the boy or his parents, but he felt a sort of attachment to them. During those three years, his family raised him unknowingly, and Kyo found something to fight for other than because he was told to. He learned from observing a family, his family, what he wanted in life.
And there was another lost soul. He didn't know when it was happening. He didn't see the signs. He had her in class and didn't know until it was too late. She killed someone to try to gain acceptance from someone she loved. Doesn't that sound like someone he knew? While he knew the circumstances weren't the same, he at least felt like she was similar. That's why he protested against the foundation killing her. If he could have a second chance, then shouldn't he at least try to give her one too? He killed plenty more people than she did.
Kyo walked down the stairs to the jail cell where they kept Airi. Juzo was the bodyguard right now and he and the man didn't see eye to eye. He still had a black eye from him. And his foot was wrapped up seeing as he injured it during investigations because he was such an idiot and dove from the roof and landed incorrectly. He had jumped several times since and managed to stick the landing with one foot, though he was worried he might be injuring it too because one was not supposed to land on one foot when doing shit like that…
"I'm here to speak to the prisoner," Kyo announced limping up to Juzo with his head held high, "Alone. If you have a problem with it, bring it up with Tengan-sensei." Kyo presented a piece of paper bearing Tengan's signature. Kyo planned this specifically. He didn't have Tengan's real permission and he forged the slip, but Tengan was away and radio silence was enforced until he came back this afternoon.
While Juzo had his protests, Kyo stood his ground and eventually Juzo left. Kyo sighed in relief having gotten away with it. Of course, if he actually asked, he would've been able to speak to her, but not alone, activating a device to knock out the cameras… Then again, Tengan was probably watching this live feed and staged the radio silence to see what he did, and there was probably a hidden camera Tengan was watching from, but Kyo didn't even think about that.
"You know, killing yourself won't solve anything. Patience is a virtue," Kyo said walking up to the edge of the cell, dropping the force field that kept her inside. Even if she tried to escape, he was sure he could beat her. "You were in my class, Ms. Mitsukuri. Lesson number one, do you remember? Always keep a level head." |

I Thought You Loved Me... That voice. It was a voice she distinctly recognized from Hope's Peak Academy. She took his classes, and when the time finally came, he was the one to bring her up to the biology lab where she was accused of murder. As well as the one that dragged her to this building, where she was locked away in darkness. Kyo Tsukino. Though Airi kept her head pressed against the concrete wall, she listened to his conversation with her prior interrogator, and current guard. He wanted to speak to her... Alone? How stupid was he? Did he just want to try to get answers out of her? As the force field that contained her in the room fell, and his footsteps bounced off the walls, she grit her teeth. What could he possibly want with her? Answers about Junko? Maybe he was hot on her. Why would he be though? She was hideous after all. The questions bubbling in her mind only grew when he finally talked. "...It'd get me out of this hole." It hadn't even reached a week yet, and already, she could feel this cell slowly driving her insane. Maybe she was just panicking. That's what it felt like though. With a clenched fist, she roughly dragged her knuckles. After a long, silent moment, she took her head off the wall, turning her body to sit on the floor, her back pressing against the cold wall. "Otherwise, I'm just twiddling my thumbs until you finally decide to execute me."
Future Foundation. Jeez, this shitty organization had the money to create such a hidden base, with such advanced prison cells. They could even wipe memories like this was Men In Black. Yet they couldn't work up the nerve to kill her after she clearly murdered a girl? If they thought she would reveal anything about Junko, they had another thing coming. The Fashionista might get mad at her again. She couldn't fail her. Never again. Not like the roof. Making a fist with her right hand, she dug her nails into her palm as she stared at Kyo. "I know you all want to.. As well as those that were close with that girl. An eye for an eye, right?" She deserved it, right? It's not like Chiaki wanted to die. It's not even like she made it quick. If Airi was going to just kill the girl, she could have pushed her off the ledge. A quick death. Instead, she waited until the gamer was dead before kicking her off. That was horrible, wasn't it? An awful crime, a deadly sin, an immoral act. Why was she still here? Were they just cowards? With narrowed, dark, silver blue eyes, she stared into his bright, ocean blue eyes with brimming disdain. "Why not right now. Come on.. I doubt they'd be mad. Just kill me. Initiate punishment time! I mean, I killed an innocent student after all!"
She tried to force a smile. A sickly, despair-filled smile that would tempt him to do something... But she failed. Gritting her teeth again, she looked down, her face returning to anger. Only Junko could pull off such an endearing expression in a situation like this. And she'd even manage to make it beautiful. That was just like her. Naturally beautiful at every moment. Every emotion was art on her face. "Then again, maybe you're right. If I'm patient enough.. Gh..." If she just waited, Junko would save her. She had to. Airi brought many people despair. She was valuable.. Junko loved her. Then.. A thought occurred to her. Teeming in the back of her head. She realized, if she could just get past him, she would finally be able to get out of the cell, even if it was just for a minute. It had to be better than rotting in here. Then again.. even if he looked like a noodle armed twink, he knew how to fight. Still, his fucking face was getting on her nerves. Clearly, she didn't learn much about patience in his class. The girl sprung up from where she sat and ran towards him. Once she closed most the distance, she shot her arm out in a sloppy attempt to punch him. MADE BY ★MEULK

| Kyo stood there, listening to Airi as she spoke. He knew what she was feeling. He knew what she was thinking. He'd gone through similar things, though they weren't exactly the same. The one he looked up to taught him to not kill unless there was no other resort. The one who taught him that no one was a lost cause. The one that taught him he could change, and be the person he wanted to be. The one that felt those emotions he had buried so deep. The person he was somewhere at some point. The man who lost his childhood and his family and his brother he didn't know he had until nearly a decade ago now.
Of course his time learning who he was included finding a woman who he fell in love with, but his fear of the feelings drove him to run away from her. He still thought of her fairly often, but he had never tried to search for her, in fear she would reject him… but Akiko Chikamatsu taught him many things about himself, even if in the end he ran from her and what he felt. After all, without her, he would not be the man he was today. Sometimes he wondered if he should go find her… but his fear was overwhelming.
Even though he saw her coming from a mile away, Kyo stood there and let her punch him, his face jerking to the side due to the punch. Kyo sniffed and turned his head back to Airi. "Did that make you feel better?" His tone wasn't snooty or sarcastic, it felt genuine. And he actually meant it. He hoped that punching him helped her release a bit of that pent up emotion. Sometimes Kyo would just punch a wall. He was known more than once for coming in with bloody knuckles and blaming it on his class or a mission or something. Not like he said it, but people assumed that. It was how he was channeled his anger when he felt like he was starting to slip back into his old ways.
"We're not going to kill you. I'll make sure of it." Kyo was one who valued human life. He wouldn't let anyone else die because of him. He had enough blood on his hands. Kyo didn't want to end any more lives, but if he had to in order to save other lives he would. But Airi didn't pose any threat right now to anyone else. He wouldn't let her. He wanted to save her, save her life, save her sanity, help her. That's what he wanted to do most of all. Help people. Some would call him an idealist, without knowledge of the real world. Well, he was experienced in the world and the darker parts. He knew that even those who sunk into the depths of despair could be pulled back up into the sunlight.
"You're thinking right now, if I just wait, she'll come for me. She'll save me. Why wait? Save yourself right now." Kyo pulled out a gun, holstered on his lower leg under his pants. He took her hand and forced the gun into it, and pointed the gun right at his head. "Go on, pull the trigger and run. Get out of here. But tell me, if you do, then what? What will you do? Run to her? Then wait until she believes you're disposable. Why do you fight for her?" Kyo removed his hands from her hands, leaving the gun in her grip. "Because you love her? Because you want to please her? Her happiness is your happiness? Are you happy right now? You sure don't seem it, locked up here. I've been watching you. She's out there, happy because of what you did. Are you happy? Ask yourself, are you really happy. Ask yourself what you really want in life. What you want. Not what she wants. What you want. What do you want to become? Do you want to kill people? Do you want to give your life for her? If so, kill yourself now before anyone can get information from you. Use that gun and pull the trigger."

I Thought You Loved Me... An unexpected, overwhelmingly strong feeling of satisfaction washed over her as her fist slammed against the blue haired man's cheek. It.. kind of hurt. She didn't hit people very often, especially not that hard. Plus, that had been the hand that she scraped her knuckles with. Pulling his fist back, the girls cold, silver blue eyes widened in surprise. She expected him to grab her wrist and throw her to the ground faster than she could gasp. Instead, he recoiled a bit. Some secret agent he was. If they were all this incompetent, maybe she really could-- "Did that make you feel better?"
The bastard. He let her hit him. What the fuck did he think this was, some sort of therapy session? She's had more than enough of that useless garbage in her life. Grinding her teeth, she looked at him with a ferocity in her eyes, and as her fist formed to punch him again, a thought suddenly occurred to her. He wanted her to do that, didn't he? Maybe he was trying to appeal to her somehow. Play nice cop. Regardless, she refused to give him the satisfaction. Letting her hand relax, she stepped back, looking towards the floor. ..Airi just couldn't admit that it did make her feel better. It gave her a sense of reality. Being stuck in a dark cell, alone, had a way of giving her a depressing solipsistic viewpoint. Now she could feel as if these bastards were actually holding her captive. "Why not?" She questioned his statement. It just didn't make sense to her. "I killed that girl. She's gone from everyone's lives because of me. I don't deserve to live, right?" She spoke in an almost mocking tone. If only they would. She killed in the name of Despair, they would kill in the name of Hope. Shining bright with hypocrisy would just be a bonus to her freedom. When Kyo spoke again.. she felt a bit sick. Those cool, blue eyes stared deep into her. Could he read her mind? Was her very existence dangerous to Junko!? Wait, no, that was absurd. He was probably just.. perceptive. Had intuition. Whatever it was, it pissed her off. Narrowing her eyes for a minute, she remembered back in the Biology lab, those idiots, and their make shift trial. They were on to her love. Damn, if she would have just done what Junko had told her, this wouldn't be happening. But at the same time, they couldn't do anything unless she talked. As of right now, their assumptions about Junko Enoshima were just that. Assumptions. "I don't know who the hell you're talking about.."
Her eyes averted towards the ground. It wasn't a bold faced lie. She certainly knew he wouldn't believe her. But as long as she denied it, they couldn't do anything. That didn't stop him from continuing his disgusting rant though, as he.. Pulled out a gun. A pistol. It was an average size, And she could see it had a clip locked into the grip. What the hell was he doing? She brought out both hands in surprise. Seriously, what was he doing? Than, the secret agent pushed the grip into her shaky hands. And pulled the gun, along with her hands, up to his forehead. This was.. another moment... like on the roof. She remembered those moments so vividly. When she hit the girl. When she brought the knife out. As she tried to stop it, all the gamer managed to do was cause herself more pain, until the knife dug into her. That was a decisive moment of life or death. Where another persons continued existence was in her hands, and she made the choice to kill. At the time, Airi was lost in the euphoric thoughts of Junko's happiness. She may have felt sick, but that kept her moving. That let her kill Chiaki. But, in retrospect, she wondered how that girl felt. She must have been scared. And in agony. Another moment had finally made itself apparent. She was pointing a gun at the man's head, all the while he was asking sickening questions, all making her want to shoot. "I.. c-c-can kill... Cause despair.... I-I'm worth... Love.." Was she speaking, or thinking? That blurred along with her vision as stingy tears welled in her eyes. If she was speaking, than he had to die. Obviously. She soon noticed the head of the gun had grown heavier. He had withdrawn his hands. She was now the only one holding the gun, pointed right at his head. She could do it. Pull the trigger, and kill him. Then run, and... what. There was no way she could shoot her way out of there. It was a fortress. His questioning continued. Was she happy? No.. Not here. If she was free, than she would be, right? Then.. "What I.. want?"
What she wanted was to be loved. Junko was the only one who could truly love her. The others were always fakes. Her mother, friends, all of them. Lies. Who else could love someone as disgusting as her as the girl who yearned for despair? Or.. maybe what she wanted was simply deeper. What she wanted was a purpose, right? Something Junko gave her. Love and purpose. And, without that... "If I'm in here.. I can't do anything.. I'm trapped like a fly in a web.. Useless... Fucking useless... Who could want someone as worthless as me.."
One after another, he dreams fell. And now, the one she loved was in danger as long as Airi lived. As long as she was in the cell, her life was meaningless. Junko can do it. She's a genius. Airi helped her. Repaid her for the love. She'll understand. So.. Stepping back, with tears running down her cheeks, she gripped the gun tightly in one hand, and pressed it against her temple. She created some distance between Kyo and her. There was no way she was going to let him stop her. Looking at him with scorn in her eyes, she hoped she was proving him wrong. That he was a fool. That she would die for Junko and herself. Bang!
... . . . . . . . They say a shot to the head was supposed to be instant death. This didn't feel like it. This hurt like hell. She wondered if she was already dead, and was just slow at realizing it. What was death really like? Maybe she was just experiencing the last moment of her life for eternity. Maybe she would stand up and see Chiaki, giving her guilty eyes. Maybe she would haunt this cell for an eternity. Maybe she was destined for hell, but anything apart from that would be preferable. No.. this wasn't death. Her arm had snapped back from the force of the shot, and the gun had fallen to the ground. What greeted her was not a bullet. It was a hard, yet empty shell ramming into her head before falling to the ground, and a wave of heat from firing the gun. Her ears rung, the right one to a painful degree. She could feel her temple stinging. It had begun to bleed. Not.. much though. Nowhere near a dangerous amount. It was like.. a regular, bullet shaped cut. It was a fucking blank. He tricked her. What did he hope to achieve with this? Was he just trying to prove a point?! Grinding her teeth, she picked the gun up, and threw it across the room with all the force she could muster. The sound of the metal smacking against the stone wall echoed throughout the room. "Why the fuck won't you let me?! What are you hoping to get out of me by just having me sit in here my whole life! Just let me." She stared needles into the man. She should have shot him. Her wrist would have still ached, but he would feel the blunt of that shot. Maybe then they would finally consider her too dangerous to live. Instead, she had to be stupid as fucking always. Of course he wouldn't give her a loaded gun, even if he thought she was a coward. Falling to her knees, she grit her teeth. "I can't wait for you all to die. It'll happen.. So much sooner than you think. You, and everyone you love.. I swear it.."
Could she really take pleasure in death, though..? MADE BY ★MEULK

| Kyo didn't try to stop her when she pulled away and put the gun to her head. He simply watched as she pulled the trigger and felt the blunt force of the blank. He made sure that it wouldn't kill anyone it was fired at, even at point blank range. He'd prepared the gun just for this, so he could better understand how she thought, and to see just how bad she was. But when she chose to kill herself, Kyo knew… Kyo knew exactly how she felt. He'd selected the different path, to kill those who captured him, the ones who kept holding him back and fucked him over. Yet she chose the other path. He didn't expect her to throw the gun away and do nothing with it, because then all his assumptions about how far gone she was would have been wrong. But this… this was even worse, honestly. When Kyo made his choice, he wanted to live on, hold on so hard, gripping to life like it was something precious even though his life was utter shit. There was nothing to look forward to, and yet he still held onto life because it was the only thing he had. And now… well, he was happy he held on.
"Is that what you really want? To die?" Kyo was being careful now to stay away from the word hope. While their sights had been set on Junko for a good amount of time now, they actually had no idea how wide spread her pull was, or how big of a threat she really was, nor did they know anything now. But if she suddenly disappeared, her legions would riot and the world would be plunged into chaos, at least that was the theory that the foundation was operating on right now. Tengan had shared top secret information that not even Munakata got to know with him. It made him feel special, but he didn't let his head get inflated. Munakata was kept in the dark about Junko Enoshima (what little knowledge they had about her), while some around him were told about her. Knowing him, he'd rush in and try to kill her instead of going with the chairman's wishes. He was always a hotheaded individual. Kyo knew he would be a good leader one day, but he was not ready. He was too… young.
Kyo bit his lower lip and considered how to proceed. He wanted so badly to save her, the need slightly selfish as well. When he looked at her, he saw what he had been, and what he could've become if it weren't for Tengan. He didn't want anyone to feel that pain or even worse pain for that fact, if it were even possible. "You know why you don't deserve to die? Because I don't want to die. I've killed far more people than you ever have. I killed a man in front of his family. All because I was told to do so. You've killed one girl. An innocent, lovely girl. Her death could kick off the end of the world, and I wouldn't give a fuck." Kyo took a step towards Airi, grabbing her wrists forcefully. "You deserve to live, god damn it. You fucked up. You made a mistake. A huge one." Kyo studied her for a moment, then forced her into a hug, holding her tightly in his arms.
"I don't care what anyone else says, but you're not worthless," Kyo said, holding her tightly regardless of her possible attempt to get free. "You don't deserve to die. But we can't let you run free where you can hurt others. What's the point, Airi Mitsukuri? Why do you want to hurt people? Do you want us to suffer along with you? To feel the same pain as you? It won't help the pain. The pain will still be there. I know it will. I feel it all the time." Kyo let go of her and took a few steps away from her, looking her in her eye, following her eyes wherever they went, if they went to the ground, he'd crouch down to where they were looking eye to eye. "You're not alone, Airi. The only way to truly be happy is to fight that pain you feel. It's a struggle, but you'll learn how to truly smile and laugh and forget about that pain for even just a little while. I loved someone too, at a point, but I ran away. Oh I'm sure she hates me now for what I did to her. I still love her. Those you love… those feelings never go away. I hurt her. I don't ever want to hurt her. I know, trust me, I know how you feel when it comes to betraying the one you love. They might not love you back, they might spit in your direction, but any attention from them is marvelous. However, love isn't everything in this world. Allow me to be your teacher once more. Please listen to me when I say this. Life isn't all about love. It's about smiles; it's about fun; it's about living. The pain you feel right now. The pain that you feel because you did what she wanted, is it worth it? If it was worth it, why aren't you happy because she's happy right now? You should be cackling with joy about what you did, happy to die for your beloved. But all you feel is pain. Airi, why do you choose this? Why do you choose this pain?"
Kyo understood, he understood perfectly well, but he wanted to see what Airi would say. He needed to see into her head, he needed to see what she thought. He needed to see her come to her own conclusion. If he just told her, then it wouldn't be as effective. It was a teaching strategy many teachers used, which is why questions regarding the material and logical jumps was commonly used in the classroom. Eye contact was important as well, he knew it, which is why he insisted on it. He felt for the girl, and he felt the same as she did years ago, or at least similarly. Then he watched over his younger brother, who he never knew he had, who was born after he was taken, and saw how happy his family was, even though he wasn't there with them. It hurt him, but it also made him happy to see them smile. He didn't even know why he cared about them, but his vague memories of before he was taken were probably the answer. From them, he grew to care for everyone around him, wanting to see people smile and laugh and just be happy. Even if he wasn't happy, he wanted to make everyone happy. It made him happy to see people smile because of something he did. It made him happy to have made someone's life a little bit easier, and take them a step from the pain he had felt. Because he didn't like the pain and he didn't want others to have to experience what he went through. |

I Thought You Loved Me... Kyo Tsukino started talking again. Preaching his beliefs like a Jehovah's witness who didn't even bother to knock. She tried not to listen to him. Airi was just getting so sick of his presence. Of his words. He didn't know her. How could he ever know her? She was a shattered person. Maybe something was wrong with her on a psychological level, but it was back not so many years ago when her entire reality, all of her desires, everything broke like glass. And there was Junko, taping the pieces back together. She understood, somewhere in her mind, that her entire sense of self revolving around another woman was bad for her. But she never cared. Rubbing her right wrist, she winced. Her ears still rung. Her head still trickled blood. It was like an insult. No, like fate was mocking her. She got pain but she didn't die. What a bad joke. The blue haired man continued his lecture. How he said what she did was a mistake, but he didn't care. His words crawled into her mind. A mistake? Did she really make a mistake? Damn it. Why couldn't he just be quiet. Standing up, she tried not to attack him on the spot. Why would she hold herself back..? "Well, that was the end goal.." It was. Her death.. The death of any Ultimate, really, could bring something to the students of Hope's Peak Academy. Despair. It wasn't just some isolated state of mind. It was like a disease. Despair gives life to despair. When more and more people experience true despair, it spreads like a virus. At least, that's how she interpreted it. The death of such a beloved girl would certainly move it along. Why Junko wanted Airi to be the one. Only Junko ever truly loved her, unlike the fakes. Maybe.. No. Nothing. Looking away from Kyo, she stared at the gray ground like it was an art piece. "No one told me to do it. I was never led to her, or even given hints. I just saw her. No care in the world. Got along with everyone.. I thought she'd be best. I'd kill her, and spread despair. That was all her life led to. Spreading pain to others through death.. That... Nanami girl. You could almost call her an Ultimate Despair."
Of course, did that really matter to Airi? No. All that mattered was Junko's happiness, love and approval. Everything else, causing despair, killing, bringing the world to hell, was just a means to that goal. It was important to her.. So much so that she really, actually went through with killing that girl. That without it, she sees no reason to breathe. Something this dumb piece of shit could never un-- He grabbed her wrist. Practically yelled in her face, that she deserved to live. As if she never did anything wrong. She was dumbfounded, her eyes wide and mouth agape. What was his deal? His end goal? Why? Why? Then, something even more unexpected happened to Airi. She was wrapped in his arms. He hugged her tightly while her arms remained slack. With a gasp, she started to press her left hand against him, pushing him away in vain. This. Nononono. This was too familiar. She started to feel things that weren't happening. That warm, wet, dripping wound pressing against her stomach, staining the coat in blood. She stabbed her. She listened as that girls shallow, choked breaths started coming and going more slowly. The body dropped like a sack of rocks. She kicked the body off the roof after setting up evidence. After that, it should have been over. She should have seen Junko smile. Felt pride. None of that happened. As he spoke, she shook. Why did he lie to her? Maybe he was just a fool. Trying to believe in something that wasn't there. She was worthless. Trash. Empty, and meaningless without that special someone. When his arms finally let her free, she stepped back, hugging herself. Her face had gotten visibly pale. "You... don't know.." What she feels. What she is. A thought, that she tried her hardest to bury surfaced every now and then. All because of that letter ending up in her room. She had to contemplate. What if Junko never came? What if what she said was true? What kind of world would that be? "I don't have any reason for those things. Smiling, pretending everything is alright. It's not.. I could be happy right now, if only I could be.. there. But you found me out. And now, locked in here, I have no purpose in life. I'm just a shell with nothing in it now. Now I'm just waiting to either die, or for all of you to die.. Nothing else matters. Nothing you say can change that fact."
She no longer tried to look away. She stared him down. Did she waver? In her mind, she did. Because, though she refused to say it, she did have another desire. To go back and stop herself from killing that girl. Walking over, close to a wall, she sat down on the floor, and looked towards the ground. Her eyes almost looked empty as she stared at the ground. Though, one question did finally break from her mind, and out her mouth. "Why do you care so much? Are you just lying to me? Even if you somehow see some of you in me, you're acting stupid. There's no point. My fate, in here, is set. My story's over.. There's no point. You're wasting your time, Kyo." She wasn't lying. That was truly the conclusion she came to. Still, as she spoke, curiosity burned in her mind, more and more. "What do you even mean by being my teacher? What could you possibly teach me? Isn't that just a waste of time for a busy person like you? Wasting your time, trying to teach whatever garbage you want to a worthless girl with no future, or purpose."
Her world, the reality she inhabited, was riddled with despair. Call it what you like. But her entire existence revolved around that girl. It went beyond normal dependency, from the day they met, Junko slowly formed Airi into this. The girl, who dreamed of being beautiful once, had been broken, and shakily put back together, in an absolutely precise way. If she is to lose her love, she breaks again. And now, sitting in the cell, she was beginning to feel something in her heart. Something she thought she could grow to love. Was this.. Despair? MADE BY ★MEULK

| Airi was incredibly lost, completely in love with someone, probably the person Munakata was worried about, Junko Enoshima, and she didn't want to give her up, and did this to impress the girl. His heart literally hurt in his chest, feeling such sadness for her, though he knew she wouldn’t want him to pity her. Or maybe she did, because then maybe she could convince him to let her go. However, Kyo wasn't that stupid. He wouldn't let a known murderer go that easily. Kyo sighed, her expressions and reactions reaching into his heart and pulling right at it. He didn't want to see this girl this upset. She was still so young. She deserved to live. It hurt for her to say she was garbage, that she didn't matter, that she had done this just because she wanted to, in order to cause despair to a handful of people…
If she were really alone, then what did it matter? She got to do a little bit a damage and killed one girl before getting caught. In the grand scheme she would be completely useless in history. Sure Chiaki Nanami could've affected the future a ton, but… the future now wouldn't know anything about it probably. No, it was so obvious there was someone else behind this. He could feel the tensions rising and someone was the mastermind. His money was on Junko, only because Munakata was usually right about these things, even if he was wrong about so many others.
"You're not a waste of time. This isn't a waste of time. I don't care what anyone else has told you, but you're a beautiful young woman who deserves real true love from someone," Kyo explained, almost a little happy that she had asked him a good question, a question that he would be able to answer with more than just lecturing about how to be good and what is good and what is bad and blah blah blah… he had started to sound like Munakata for a second there, and that was shutter worthy. "It's my job as a teacher at Hope's Peak Academy to help anyone in need of help. And even if you don't admit it, you need it. You're too young to give up. You have so much life to live! What do you want to do with your life? You have so many options. Don’t waste your life now. It's not even close to over. Your story… this is just the beginning. This is just your backstory. You just have to accept it and move on, because that's what life is all about. You have to face consequences for your actions, but it would be too easy to let you off. What sort of message would we be sending to the world when we kill people just because they killed as well? We'd no longer be the 'good' guys. We'd be just as much murderers." Kyo sighed again and turned his back to Airi, running a hand through his hair and then repositioning his glasses so they sat correctly on his face.
"I won't ever give up on you, Airi. You don't have to tell me anything about your friends' plans. But I won't stop coming to you to try to show you how… hope feels. I don't care about you giving us information, we'll figure it out anyways with or without your help. I care about you, Airi. I will never considering trying to help another stupid. I don't consider you garbage. I don't consider you worthless. You have worth, Airi, maybe not to her, her friends, anyone you've ever come into contact with. You are priceless. There will only ever be one you. And you have to make sure you are the you that you want to be. Do what will make you happy. Be selfish. Treat yourself to life. Live your life the way you want to, don't do anything you don't just because it'd make another happy. You sure as hell aren't happy right now, so obviously making her happy doesn't make you happy." Kyo walked towards the area the force field used to be at and crossed the barrier out of the cell, but he didn't raise it again. "I want you to be happy too. I want you to smile. Plus... I think you'd look cuter with a smile." Kyo turned to face her with a small little smirk.

I Thought You Loved Me... Kyo Tsukino. Raising her head, she stared in his general direction. As he spoke, giving some hopeful speech, the only thought that shot through her brain was how empty his words were. How pointless they were. Her fate was sealed. She was trapped in that dark hole, likely for the remainder of her life. No matter if that would be a day, or a decade longer. What kind of backstory was that? What kind of backstory last forever? She despised this place. Everything about it. Every single person inside of it. Being there was like a nightmare that never ended. Like her story could ever continue in such a manner. Did she.. really make a mistake? How did she end up there? A memory replayed in her head. The first night they met, through vision blurred by tears, she had looked up. That night, a girl stood over her, with beautiful, petrifying sapphire blue eyes. Long, vibrant blonde hair that almost looked pink. Fair skin. A warm, kind smile set on her face. She had always cherished that meeting as the single greatest moment of her life. Never, not even once, did she consider what intentions were masked behind that smile. Was this the fate for her something Junko wanted? It wasn't so much of a thought as it was just a flicker of an idea. A flicker that made her feel sickly. Suddenly, Kyo asked her what she wanted to do with her life. It was the kind of question that gripped her attention. Though, even if she tried to conjure some answer to the inquiry, at least for herself, she couldn't come to a conclusion other than to leave this place and be with her love again. Such a goal was unattainable. Her old teacher continued his tirade, barely pausing to take a breath until he finally reached the end. The cherry on top, the part that she almost wanted to spit at, was that mention of Junko. How their happiness was not intertwined. This idiot man. He could never understand. Ever. The pause finally gave her mind a moment to relax. With the sound of his footsteps bouncing off the walls, she saw that he was making his way towards the exit? Was that it? Had he finally finished his meaningless talk? It seemed that way, until finally, he turned his head, and told her that... She would.. look cuter with a smile.... Now she really wanted to hate him. That "compliment" disgusted Airi to her very core. The way he smiled. That implication. He had to know that such a phrase wouldn't go down well with her. He was a fool, but not much of a fool, right? Scowling at him, she tried her hardest to force whatever thoughts his conjured up from her mind, forever. Still.. She felt something for a moment. Almost like a.. slight forgiveness? No. She shook her head. Instead, her focus went on the fact that he was simply standing there, at the exit, without raising the force field again. Rising to her feet, she turned her head left to look at the black metal gun, now empty even of blanks. Was he just gonna leave it there? She wondered what this organization would do to him if they found his gun in her cell. For whatever reason, that thought compelled her to walk over to the firearm, picking it up by the grip, before turning with a blank-ish expression to the blue haired man. Walking towards him, she stood at the threshold of her cell and the rest of the facility. She wondered what it'd take to just bolt out of there.. No, there was no need in thinking of that. Surely, that boxer, or the white haired man would stop her. Hell, Kyo probably would too, even if he was an idiot. Narrowing her eyes, she did become curious for a moment. "..You're wasting you breath. The only thing you're even achieving by talking like this is drowning out the silence in this cell." She paused. More thoughts began to cloud her mind. Was that really all he was doing to her? And even if it was, was that a bad thing? This place was maddening. She suddenly realized that his lecture was at least keeping her sane. If not all that calm. No.. Fuck that. Looking out the cell, she felt.. a desire to just step out. Even for an instant. Why. Looking towards the floor, she huffed. "There a reason you're taking your sweet time locking me away again? I don't assume you're so stupid that you can trust me, and leave that field down.. Though, after that comment, I'm not so sure."
Her words suddenly became a bit petty. It was nice. Slowly raising her head again, she wondered.. With the gun still held loosely in her grip, she side stepped Kyo, so that he was no longer blocking her way. And then, she took a step. Two. Three. No longer standing in her dark cell, but instead, in the hallway lining the cells, that at the very least was a bit brighter. But it felt like a lot more than that. Like the world was suddenly open again. Like she could breath fresh air after being stuck in a dusty box for a long time. If she wasn't so lost in her own despair, she'd be smiling ear to ear. After a minute passed, she turned to Kyo. Sighing, she held out the gun. "If they see me with your weapon, they might throw you in this cell with me for being a traitor. Then I'll never hear the end of your hope." MADE BY ★MEULK

| Every little action Kyo made was a calculated move. Leaving the gun in the cell. Walking away. Deliberately not putting the field back up. He wanted to see how she would react. She was like a wild animal who just was trapped and had to learn how to behave and not eat people. Unless she was eating him --- that was not the mindset he needed right now, but regardless he still seemed to have a dirty mind despite the seriousness of everything. He just avoiding saying those things aloud, and managed to manage his thoughts a lot better than when he wasn't in such an important situation.
"Well, then I'm achieving something, right?" Kyo grinned before looking away again, allowing his thoughts to come quickly to him, the thoughts analyzing and zooming by quicker than one could really speak. She was a wonderful girl, but she refused to see it. Then again, she did just lash out a few days ago and kill a girl. Killing always affected a person, especially those who weren't psychopaths, and he knew that Airi wasn't one. Or at least he was fairly certain she wasn't a psychopath from his current observations of her. This meant that she was suffering. She had been wounded mentally and she was lashing out at him after he trapped her in this cage. He didn't blame her, quite honestly. She was hurting and getting close would be hard, and the healing process would take time.
"Of course you're going to have to go back in there. But what's wrong with letting you out for a little bit? I mean, I won't let you hurt anyone while I'm around. Though if you want, you can hit me as much as you want," Kyo explained. Sometimes one just needed to release their anger. While Kyo tended to beat up pillows and the occasional wall, a physical manifestation of stress relief was really wonderful at times, and others it would just make things worse, especially if he ended up hurting someone. He looked down at his foot which was in pain of course, though he masked it fairly well given his training. He hoped she wouldn't hit him there, if she did at all.
She seemed a little bit cautious as she stood next to him, taking a few steps forward. Despite Kyo's hurt foot he was pretty sure he could catch her if she tried to run, though he would pretty much let her run if she really tried to, at least for a little bit, to see exactly how she acted, without Juzo or Munakata interfering lest he would probably end up getting in trouble from the assholes. Hey, he had seniority even if they were technically higher ranked than him. He trusted them as leaders, but he wasn't going to sit down and be told how stupid he was for pulling such a stunt. Even Tengan would probably be angry at him, but they just didn't understand. He needed to know how she worked and whatever happened, he could control her, he was sure.
Then she turned and handed him the gun back. He laughed slightly at her statement. "Oh, how kind of you. You really do care, don't you?" Of course he was being slightly sarcastic, though he hoped that she did care at least a little bit somewhere deep down. Then again that was a lot to ask for when he was talking to a recent murderer. If you asked him back when he was controlled by the government, he probably wouldn't have cared much either. All he had to do was his job, and nothing else mattered, because in the end, he might have to end up killing those he had grown to care for. And no matter his feelings he would just do his job.
"You know what? What do you want to do? There's restrictions of course. But we could play a game, you could just punch me, you could whack me with this gun," Kyo gestured to the gun she just handed to him. "I could leave, if you want. Tell me, Airi, you're going to be stuck in this room and you can't contact anyone outside of it, but given this restriction, I'll do whatever you want."

I Thought You Loved Me... She was a mess of splitting emotions, caught between utter despair and a budding desire to reverse that. Why? Junko had talked so very much about how wonderful despair was. It made life interesting. Life without despair was boring and meaningless, It was the only thing that could make her feel truly alive. Except… That’s what Junko thought. She wasn’t Junko. In Airi’s attempt to bring despair to the entire academy, she had just filled herself with that very same feeling, perhaps more than she could have ever expected. And it made her feel dead. As much as she tried, striven, and dreamed to truly relate to Junko, they were different people. Would her beloved ever accept her if she couldn’t revel in those feelings, would she ever be accepted? Did Junko already give her answer? Airi gripped her chest, almost feeling a very real, physical pain inside.Scowling at the man standing beside her, she made no effort to hide the exasperated breath that escaped her. “Why would I care about you? The only way I knew you before was as a teacher I didn’t give a shit about. And now…” Her teeth clenched together hard enough to hurt. From anger to sadness to anger to sadness, back and forth. Was this how she was going to spend every waking minute? As much as she just wanted to tell Kyo to fuck off and be done with it, if nothing else, out of her warped principle, she couldn’t. It disgusted her, but right now, he was the only thing in her life that showed potential to be ‘good.’ “Just don’t get booted out of here. You’re the only decent person in this miserable place.” Was that strictly selfish, or something more? Did she care about Kyo at all, or was he just going to be a tool to drown out her thoughts. The girl stared down the hall. God. What floor was she on? Probably a basement level, right? What if she ran? Either by some miracle, she’d escape into freedom, or she’d get gunned down trying. Either way, could it be better than this? Even with every fiber of her being that seemed to scream ‘yes’, she couldn’t move a foot forward to try. Kyo started talking again, listing suggestions for how she could spend her new prison life, with some obvious limitations. Play games? Pistol whip him to her heart's content? What he was saying was more than a little preposterous. It almost felt mocking, in some little way. ‘Oh, you can’t leave here, but guess what? We can play tic tac toe sometime! Doesn’t that just totally make up for the whole life imprisonment thing?’ Damn it. But why the hell was she complaining? He was offering something kind to her, only days after she actually murdered another girl. A girl who didn’t deserve it. Was this some elaborate way to make her talk? Or maybe he wanted to wet his whistle? Why couldn’t she just accept it no matter the reason!? Fuck! “F-Fucking.. Damn it!” She turned and landed a punch straight into his gut. And then another. More, more more more more more! Her punches weren’t especially strong, so they likely didn’t cause much pain at all. In fact, considering his surprisingly tough abs, it was probably hurting her more than anything. But she kept punching, landing probably ten or fifteen hits before slowing down, a little more each punch, finally pulling her fist away. Stepping back, Airi panted, catching her breath, a beat of sweat started to drip down her forehead. Damn… Well, it… It helped relieve her anger a little. The man didn’t seem to mind. He was a strange guy. That feeling felt so familiar to her. Those motions of sticking solid jabs into his stomach… They felt all too close to what she did on the roof. It wasn’t her intention to remind herself of that. It probably wasn’t Kyo’s intention either. Things just worked out that way. Sniffling a bit, she stepped back into the cell, holding her arms tightly together. Her eyes began to to burn a little. “I’m sorry… For…” It was cold in the room. That, if nothing else, helped her keep her senses a bit. “P-Punching you. I think I just want to be alone right now.. B-But…” Yeah, she gained a little sense. All the steam built up in her finally started to dissipate with those hits. Sure, it wasn’t fair to use another person as a venting punching bag, but it did help quite a bit. This pain in her hand was sort of sobering. At least it didn’t dull her head like, well, bashing her head on a wall. With eyes drifting towards the dreary gray floor, she uttered out, somewhat in shame. “Come by again, though. I’d rather get lectures than just stay in silence, I suppose. Or whatever the hell you want.” MADE BY ★MEULK
